Wren Bird House Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about wren bird house plans. If you are looking for a simple project for your kids, this birdhouse is probably the best choice, as the materials required for the job are cheap. This is a great opportunity to pass down some basic carpentry techniques to the kids. These birds have many predators, such as cats, snakes or cowbirds, therefore you have to place the birdhouse at about 8′ above the ground.

If you want to make sure the birds will come back, we recommend you to clean them after the young birds have left. In addition, repair the wooden boxes every February, to prepare them your guests. Make sure you take a look over the rest of my bird project HERE.

First of all, you need to build the sides for the wren bird house. Cut the components from 1×6 lumber at 8″. Use some drill bits to make holes at the top of the components. These holes will ventilate the interior of the birdhouse.

Next, use 1×6 lumber for the back of the bird house. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock everything together tightly. Add glue to the joints.

Use 1×6 lumber for the front of the bird house. Use a 1 1/2″ hole saw bit to make the entrance.

Attach the front to the bird house with 1 5/8″ screws. Don’t use glue for these joints, as you will need to take off the front and clean the inside. Align the edges with attention.

Attach the roof with 1 5/8″ screws and glue.

Drill holes through the floor of the bird house, as shown in the plans.

Fit the bottom piece to the bird house. Insert screws through the sides into the bottom piece.

Last but not least you must sand the exterior of the birdhouse.

Secure the bird house to a tree or pole with a few screws. Make sure you clean the interior every year.
